PAINT IT RED: A BRIEF HISTORY: Paint it Red is a regular collaborative music and art event held at Jugglers Art Space in Fortitude Valley and other venues across Brisbane and Melbourne. Programs combining classical chamber music, jazz and improvised music, and other art music forms including folk and electronic music are presented in an intimate and contemporary gallery space adorned by art works from local Brisbane art students and professionals. Created as a forum to both celebrate and further unify the classical, jazz, and visual art communities of Brisbane, Paint it Red provides a vibrant and eclectic meeting place for musicians and artists to collaborate and thrive.
Improvised ‘reaction art’, where an artist will create original visual works live to either pre-composed or improvised music, has become a staple of Paint it Red, which has resulted in the creation of over half a dozen original art works now owned by galleries and attendees. Paint it Red is built upon collaboration and celebration.
Past performers have included Barega Saxophone Quartet, Brisbane Guitar Quartet, Armilla Quartet, Peter Musson Wind Quintet, Steph Dixon & Eve Newsome, Andrew Garton, Jazzkill Bandits, Beatrice Collective, Point String Quartet, Stitched Saxophone Quartet, Kieran Welch, D'Netto String Quartet, and many others.
Paint it Red was founded by Luke Carbon and is curated by Molly Collier-O’Boyle, alumnus of the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University. Luke and Molly gratefully acknowledge the continued support of Peter Breen of Jugglers.
