Jugglers began in October 1998 as a bi-monthly music performance and visual arts event. It was driven by a vision to celebrate and encourage a wide diversity of creative expression with accomplished musicuans and painters. Always included were live graffiti exhibitions with artists drawn from a broad range of experience in that art genre. Part of the Jugglers Vision was to "give people a go" which made the event more than a concert. That objective still drives us forward. The following philosophical and spiritual framework were foundational:
After 4 successful, innovative and experimental years. the small management group decided it was time to look for a place that was nearer to the vibrant and flourishing Brisbane art/music scene. Through quite surprising and sometimes amazing coincidences, the current building in "the valley" became available in December 2002. The first artist in residence (Jamie Reyers) moved into our first studio as part of our community focus in February 2003, "Fox Galleries" began exhibiting out of the renovated downstairs space in February 2004. Grafiti and street art have been a constant thread & presence at 103 Brunswick Street from its inception. 103 has become a safe and iconic space for graf and street art over the past 3 years. Nationally known "Rhubarb" and "Soma Rasa" have both recorded there and Channel 9 broadcast a documentary about graffic on January 30, 2006 across their national network. The first Jugglers event directed by Neil Warner was let loose on Brisbane, with comedian Harley Breen, in October 2004. Evolving out of that concept are the monthly Sunday Sessions and the regular hire of the space by QUT and local bands. The first labyrinth was installed in June 2004 with two more since. Randal Breen has become the Site Manager and graffic cordinator as well as serving as a JASI board member. Jugglers began as Cafe' Jugglers but since Incorporation in August 2005 is now know as Jugglers Art Space Inc (JASI). In November 2005 JASI was entered onto the Register of Cultrual Organisations (ROCO) giving us the right to offer tax deductions for donations. Jugglers continues to work hard at fund raising grant writing and mutual cooperation with other like-minded organisations. Alng with many hours of volunteer effort and donations over the past 7 years from a small group of generous supporters, Jugglers' funding was initially auspiced by The Waiters Union and Community Initiatives Resources Association (CIRA). This opened the door for Jugglers to purchase high quality sound equipment .
jugglers offers a range of opportunities for individuals, groups and organisations to create, explore and inspire.
